Disc Golfers Raise $870 for Feeding South Dakota in Annual Ice Bowl
(Rapid City) The 11th annual DISC GOLF ICE BOWL was held on Saturday, February 4 at Jackson Park. 28 hardy disc golfers from across the state teed off in the annual charity event, which raised $870 for the Feeding South Dakota food bank. Paul Wingfield of Huron was recognized as the leading fundraiser. Division winners were Jason Wiedrich (48) in Advanced, Steve Bernard (49) in Masters, Scott Caesar (48) in Grandmaster, Jo Mikkelsen (79) in Women, Nathan Horsley (52) in Intermediate, Greg Howard (55) in Recreational, and Tyler Trautman (53) in Juniors.
Official Ice Bowls are played at courses all over the United States, Canada and Europe in a corridor that runs this year from January 7-February 26. Each event finds a charity to support. The collective Ice Bowl goal for 2012 is to raise $300,000 worldwide. In 2011, over $275,000 was raised at 231 Ice Bowls.
Since 2001, the Rapid City Ice Bowl has raised over $7/600. Weather at the annual winter event has ranged from bitter to balmy, as the event motto is “no wimps or whiners allowed” regardless of the conditions.
