Disc Golfers Raise $1,770 for Feeding South Dakota
(Rapid City) The 14th annual DISC GOLF ICE BOWL, hosted by Black Hills Disc Golf Club, was held on Saturday, January 31 at Jackson Park. 33 hardy disc golfers from across the state teed off in the annual charity event, which raised an event record $1,770 for the Feeding South Dakota food bank. Curtis Williams of Spearfish was recognized as the top pledge fundraiser. Division winners were Steve Bernard (45) in Pro Open, Michael Rensch (50) in Advanced, Shawn Magnusson (53) in Masters, Don Altmeyer (54) in Grandmaster, Jo Mikkelsen (84) in Women, Jeff Logan (56) in Intermediate, Kevin Francis (58) in Recreational, and Hannah Safer (97) in Juniors.
Official Ice Bowls are played at disc golf courses all over the United States, Canada and Europe. Each event finds a charity to support. In 2014, over $275,000 was raised at 231 Ice Bowls. Weather at the annual winter event has ranged from bitter to balmy, as the event motto is “no wimps or whiners allowed”. The Ice Bowl cannot be cancelled due to weather.
