27 Area Disc Golfers raise $880 for Food Bank in the Ice Bowl
(Rapid City) The 10th Annual Disc Golf Ice Bowl was held Saturday, February 5th, sponsored by Scheels All Sports. 27 warmly-dressed players teed off in 44 mph wind gusts and 23 degrees wind chill at 11:00 a.m. and competed in the annual fundraiser event. The turnout raised $880 to benefit Community Food Banks (Feeding South Dakota).
Official Ice Bowls are played all over the United States, and in Canada and Europe in a corridor that runs this year from January 1-February 27. Each event finds a charity to support. The collective Ice Bowl goal for 2011 is to raise $300,000 worldwide. In 2010, over $261,000 was raised at 226 Ice Bowls. Locally, the Rapid City Ice Bowl is hosted by the Black Hills Disc Golf Confederacy, and since 2002 has raised $6,850 for local charities.
Lisa Zakrzewski was recognized for her efforts in collecting the most player pledge donations, as she raised $240 in pledges for the Food Bank.
