Needle's Eye (Custer) Recap- June 12, 2010
Under the near guaranteed threat of rain and temperatures in the 40’s and low 50’s, 21 players came to Custer from around the region. Those who came were not disappointed. The weather stayed reasonable and mostly dry.
The BHDGC had purchased player's packages from the 2010 World's Biggest Disc Golf Weekend. All players got a custom t-shirt and disc for their $20 entry fee and had the privilege to play a tournament on the most beautiful disc golf course in the Black Hills for hundreds of miles in any direction!
This was the first ever event on the Pageant Hill course, installed in the Spring of 2009.
The best single round score of the day was Kayne Larimer’s (Masters Division) 53, shot in the morning round. Luther Flagstad (Intermediate Division) carded a 54, shot in the afternoon.
The best combined total round score was Don Altmyer’s 111, only 3 over par, (Grand Masters Division). Behind him came a tie of Justin Cournoyer’s (Advanced Division) and Luther Flagstad’s (Intermediate Division) 113 scores. Following them was Chris Wells (Advanced Division) and Scott Caesar’s (Masters Division) 115 scores.
Although there were no hole-in-one’s during the tournament…the day before the event, Co-TD Eric Allen had a hole-in-one on #4. A 309 foot blind shot through some 50 trees along its path!
Co-TD Scott Caesar shot a birdie-2 on hole #15 both rounds, and also won the throw off CTP contest since there were no aces.
The TD-duo hopes to repeat this event again in the 2010 season but will order better weather ;-)
