21 Area Disc Golfers raise $730 for Food Bank in the Ice Bowl this year! (Rapid City)
The 9th Annual Disc Golf Ice Bowl was held Saturday, February 13th, sponsored by Scheels All Sports. 21 warmly-dressed players teed off in 48 mph wind gusts and -11 degrees wind chill at 11:00 a.m. and competed in the annual fundraiser event. The turnout raised $730 to benefit Community Food Banks of South Dakota.
Official Ice Bowls are played at over 225 courses across the United States, Canada and Europe in January and February. Each event is encouraged to find a local charity to support, with an emphasis on fighting hunger. Last year’s events combined to raise over $224,162 and over 55,599 pounds in donated food. . Locally, the Rapid City Ice Bowl is hosted by the Black Hills Disc Golf Confederacy, and since 2002 has raised $5,970 for local charities.
In the Master’s Division, Rapid City’s Scott Caesar led all players with a 46. The Advanced Amateur field was taken by Jason Wiedrich of Rapid City, who carded a 50. In the Intermediate Division, Kevin Kennedy scored the second best overall score of 47. Sam Jackson of Hill City carded a 65 and claimed the Women’s title. Keenan Caesar and Caleb Larimer, both scoring 62 after 18 holes, continued playing for a sudden death playoff for first in the Recreational Division. Keenan won the playoff to take the title. Nehemiah Larimer claimed the Junior Division, carding a 64. Scott Caesar was also recognized for his efforts in collecting the most pledge donations, as he raised $211 in pledges for the Food Bank.
