Goodsell Quinn Gold Rush 2010 Recap
The third annual Goodsell Quinn Gold Rush Disc Golf Tournament was last weekend at Jackson Park and Cedar Canyon Camp and was hosted by the Black Hills Disc Golf Confederacy.
Eighty-six players from eight states competed for Pro and Amateur Division titles, and for national tour points sanctioned under the Professional Disc Golf Association. The tournament drew the largest field ever for a South Dakota disc golf event and awarded a record cash and prize payout of more than $5,000.
All divisions played a round Saturday on each course, with the top Amateur and Pro Divisions playing a third round on a temporary course at Cedar Canyon Camp on Sunday.
Although Jackson Park is known as a challenging course, additional hole placements and extended tees resulted in only a handful of players carding scores under par.
In the Open Pro division, Joe Rovere of Telluride, CO shot 3-over to claim the title and $500 purse. Rovere, a 1996 graduate of Rapid City Stevens High School, is currently ranked in the top 40 in the Professional Disc Golf Association. Rapid City’s Chris Wells placed sixth in his first pro event.
